Outdoors BURNER doesnt WORK....

I just bought the 52x lite on cd burner like couple months ago and now its not working on me. My friends are always messing around with my new computer that I built so i figure that had something to do with it......grrrrrr. Can someone please tell me why my burner is not working and offer solutions please??? EVerytime I try to burn something with nero express no matter what im burning and what the size is, the burning process stops at 6%-7% and the "read buffer" goes back to 0%. When I look to see if my burner is even flashing a light, nothing....help.

Please, only post one thread in the most appropriate forum for each topic. I have deleted the other two threads.

Have you tried re-installing all the required software from the installation CD? This generally solves most of these types of problems, especially if related to the ASPI layer.

As to other ideas, we will need a little more information. What operating system, version of Nero, etc.? This could be a simple as a driver problem, or as complex as a dead IDE cable or drive.

What if it is a dead IDE cable or drive? By the looks of things it seems like that is the problem.

OK, I just noticed you said the burner light was not flashing. Does the burner ever light up? If not, then simply check the 4-prong power wire running to the burner. Could be a quick fix.

While you are looking the power wire, check to make sure the IDE cable is firmly connected at each end. It is the large flat cable that connects the drive to the IDE controller (usually the motherboard itself).

One quick note:

Did you push any pins in on the drive when attaching the ide cable?

If your not sure remove cable and check...this happened to me one late night trying to install a new hd...

Good luck..

DOes it give you an error? And if so What does it say exactly.
What OS are you using? Does it read CDs alright?

You might try what Rob said and reinstall the burning software, also i have had to reinstall windows over top of the current install to get a burner to work in win 98.Save all system files though so you don't loose anything Last resort there though.

im pretty sure i didnt push any pins in because my burner worked fine for the couple of months i had it up to now. This is exactly what it says after I press the burn button.
1) LiteOn LTR 52246s, Buffer underrun protection activated.
2) burn process started at 52x(7800KB/s)
3) LiteOn LTR 52246s SCSI/IDE Command Aborted
4) Burn process failed at 52x(7800KB/s)

thats all it says. Im running windows XP pro and it reads CDs fine, Im listening to my burned audio CD on my CD burner right now......hmmmmmmm???

quick question... are you using very old media..like 4x or 8x cd-r's?
i have had that problem when i upgraded from 4x mitsumi to a lite on 48x burner..i had a lot of older media left over and was trying to burn it at like 32x or even 48x. i dropped speed to 4-8x and it worked fine.

Systems EXACT same problem!!

Hey guess what! I have the exact same burner w/ the exact same problem! have had it for just over 6 months, and the thing has been working like a champ. All of a sudden I get buffer under runs and strange error messages left & right, including the one you got. Heres what I have tried but it hasnt worked...

-Changed IDE Cable
-Changed IDE Channel
-Changed Media
-Changed burning software
-Fresh install of Windows XP
-Messed around w/ power --checked out fine

I am just about out of ideas. I have e-mailed Lite-On tech support w/ this problem but i am pretty sure the drive is toast ... :/ not good... Hopefully they will replace it or something for me. Note: Occasionaly it will successfully burn a cd. Very occasionally.

Heres my system specs for your ref:
-Soyo DRAGON Plus! mobo
-Athlon XP 2000+
-384Mb PC2100 DDR
-Dual 40gb HDD 7200 RPM on RAID O array
-400watt power supply
-The busted lite-on drive
-Windows XP Pro SP1 w/ all (recent) updates

Im hoping someone might think of something i didnt, also , theres probably something i left off but we'll see...
