1xAGP MB using 4x-8xAGP Video?

I have a motherboard that only supports 1x AGP. I'm thinking of
getting the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB 8x AGP card, then
upgrading my motherboard later. Will I be able to use that card
in my current motherboard? If so, I imagine it would only run at 1x AGP.

Anyone know about the voltages involved? My brain might be whacked, but IIRC, there is a mobo requirement about voltages, which voltages IIRC changed between 1x and 4x....

9600 series are 4x/8x ONLY, neither fitting nor working in 1x/2x-only mainboards. Your mainboard must at least have 4x mode.

You'd probably kill the card anyway. The voltage has been dropped with the different revisions, between 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 My advice would be to get a apg 3.0 board then you can run whatever card you want.
