Kids How do I back up email???

Ok guys,

I need some help.

I have Win XP and I am looking to back up my email so that I can reformat and stuff, and I use Outlook Express. Can someone please tell me how to do this so I can readd my email when I am done reformatting please. I prefer OE over Outlook, so not looking to really mess with Outlook too much.

Thanks so much guys!

Oh, and sorry, but I need this ASAP

Open up Outlook Express and go to Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>click on "Store Folder".

When the dialog box pops up, highlight and copy that path. Go to Start>Run, paste that path into the run line and hit enter. The folder containing your .dbx files will open up.

Go to the Edit menu, choose "Select All", then copy. Now create a new folder and paste those files into the new folder.

Take that folder and copy it to some form of removable media. (cd-r, zip, backup drive, etc)

After reinstallation, copy that folder to your desktop from the backup media, then open up Outlook Express , go to File>Import>Messages.

Choose Outlook Express, then browse to the folder that you placed on the desktop.

Additionally, you might want to export the address book from the old machine and import it on the new one too.

1. You need to unhide hidden folders. My Computer>Tools Menu\Folder Options>View.. check the box entitled Show Hidden Files and Folders.

2. Go to c:\documents and settings\(your username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identies\{0B8C21C0-A412-4483-B11D-9510AA60C03D}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. Copy all these files to your backup location. (Once you get to the Identities folder, the only folder in there is the 0B8C2 blah, blah blah... that's the one you want.. then open Microsoft\Outlook Express.

I keep these files on a separate partition on my drive, then point OE to them every time I reinstall. To do this, open OE, go to Tools, Options, Maintenance and click the Store button. Then browse to the folder where your OE backup is located.

If you decide to go this route, you'll never have to backup OE again, provided your hard drive doesn't crash totally.
