OS Poll @ NewEgg

A while back I was on NewEgg answering one of their polls. I noticed a spot where you could suggest what their new poll should be so I suggested "Which OS do you currently use". Perhaps some other customers were also interested in this also. The results surprised me.

For one thing I had no idea that many people would spring for the extra money for the PRO version of WinXP over WinXP home ed. I was also surprised more of their customers were using Linux than 95/NT/ME/ or Mac OS.

Windows 95 .................0.3% .................140 votes
Windows 98 .................7.82% .............3694 votes
Windows 2000 ..........13.17% .............6226 votes
Windows Me ................3.25% .............1537 votes
Windows NT 4.0 ..........0.17% .................81 votes
Windows XP Home ...15.84% ............7488 votes
Windows XP Professional ..50.9% .24054 votes
Mac OS .........................1.75% ...............827 votes
Linux ...............................6.22% ............2941 votes
Other ...............................0.58% ..............271 votes

Total Votes: 47259

Most of these votes for XP Pro are from people with the Corporate version.

Home edition lacks certain networking features, though this probably does not affect the average PC user. I am surprised as well, as most consumer-oriented XP OEM installations are home edition, not professional.

Then again, we have to factor the demographics of NewEgg into the situation. If a consumer is purchasing items from an online vendor, then it can be assumed the majority have atleast above average knowledge of computers, thus the interest in WinXP Pro can be easily rationalized.

Probably BSD

... There is no Corporate *version* of WinXP ... it's a different lisence. It's plain XP Pro without the activation.

I thought this went without saying.

Seriously though, why don't they just call it Warez XP to make it simple?
