what card should I get

I need to update my video card here are the choices I could find in my area
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB Video Card
MSI GeForce FX5900 ultra
I got a p4@2.53ghz
asus p4s8x motherboard with 512 ddr ram
I am asuming that these cards will work with this configuration

also my computer will be my tv for a few months while I am away and was wondering if any of you have one of these
ATI TV WONDER Pro Remote Control Edition, PCI, PC, bilingual
and how good are they

that's a hard choice as both are very good. i say get the one you find the lowest.

the TV LEADTEK WINFAST "DELUXE" TV2000XP TV/FM MULTIMEDIA CARD is going for $50 @ newegg.

Agree with slinky. Performance is so close price is the biggest factor.

Phew! Those video cards are extremely powerful and expensive. But if you really need to choose I would say for now go with the Nvidia since in the latest benchmarks I have seen it is the most powerful video card out there on the market today. Next after it would the other card come. Interesting is that the ATi 9800 Pro with 128 beats the one with 256, why I dont know. Here is the link with the benchmarks performed by tomshardware.
Benchmark of Video Cards

I would actually dont spend that much of money in a video card, but again, I dont play games

now if the 128mb beats the 256 would the ATi 9800 Pro with 128 be able to play half life 2 no problem.
In case you may be wondering why I need a new card is that I am going to be in a city (8 months)were I don't know anybody and will probaly be playing games all the time when not working.

Geforce FX is Geforce 5 (hence the FX 5200, FX 5600 etc ...). The FX family work better with dx9, AA, and AF. However, the FX 5200 has limited functionality and any of the GF4 Ti series will outperform it. In dx8 games the ti 4x00 and the 5600 are approx. equivalent and the 5800/5900 are significantly quicker. In dx9 games the 5600 does better than the ti 4x00 and the 5800/5900 is leagues ahead. Same goes for AA or AF (anisotropic filtering and Anti Aliasing).
Is it worth the $$ ... that's up to you ... try checking out some benchmarks at somewhere like tom's hardware guide and comparing prices at your favourite shop. Personally, at home, I use a GF4 to 4200 from MSI as it plays all current games with all graphics at their highest except for AA and AF ... and that's fine by me, especially considering its price. DX9 games are on their way tho' and you might want to consider a gf fx 5600 ultra or an ATI radeon 9600 pro as they are equivalent or better than the 4200 in dx 8 but significantly better for DX9.
Regards,
Elad.
