Linksys Router cant access internet

Have my lappy connected to the Linksys BEFSR41. I have verizon online Crap Subscribers Line. My DSL modem is connected to the WAN port.....and my ethernet adapter in my lappy is connected to LAN port 2 on the router...I have the router setup as follows....

Login setup: PPPOE

User name: *************
Password: ************

Connect on demand Idle 30 min

The router says its connected to the ISP server but I cannot get any internet connection on my lappy. What am I doing wrong here??? Is there something wrong with my router?? I can connect to the internet when my lappy is connected directly to the DSL modem. This didnt happen until a day after I flashed the router firmware(connectivity issues). Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks.

click the status tab in the router and see if you are grabbing an ip address from the ISP

if your not

do this in this order

turn off the modem, the router and the computer

turn on the router and let all the lights turn on, then turn on the modem, then turn on the pc.

sorry you are having alot of problems over there Dark.

Verizon East (formerly Bell Atlantic)

If you have Verizon's "WinPoet" or "Enternet300" software (PPPoE) installed on your computer(s) you need to uninstall it. Click on your "Start" button, go up to "Settings" and then over to "Control Panels". Go to "Add/Remove Programs" and double click, find "WinPoet" or "Enternet300" and remove it.

Next, go to http://192.168.1.1 in your web browser. Leave username blank, enter "admin" for the password. Once in the set-up page, go down to "PPPoE" at the bottom of the page. Click "Enable" and enter your Verizon Username and Password into the appropriate slots. Click on the "Apply" button and you are ready to go!

I did exactly what you wrote GZ. My router is grabbing an IP from Verizon. Strange though, it keeps grabbing the same IP number. I thought I was on a DHCP server, thus would get a different IP number everytime I logged on.

I not uncommon to have the same IP for a month or longer. It depends on the ISP and how they configure their DHCP leases.
