My friends Mechwarrior 4 not working

It isn't working! It just blacks out for no reason

You can play the game but occasionally the screen blacks out or does it immediately blank the screen when the game starts up?

Are you using an original cd? Have you tried to reinstall the game? At what time does it black out(during an explosion? showing some scenery?, etc...)?

it shuts down then starts then blacks out, pretty confusing

Wait a bit. The first time you run it, it will take a lil bit of time to like look at your hardware and give you the EULA and a menu to choose graphic options. After you're done with that it should never come up again.
