Help with website

Well I've been asked to help make the physics webpage for my school so I decided to try and whip up some sort of template/design for it.

Well after a few hours of screwing around with photoshop and dreamweaver at my dads office I managed to come up with this:

http://www.netsync.net/users/drpmkp/MainBeta2.htm

My graphic design skills are slim to none, so I was hoping someone could help me out with some suggestions. The Banner at the top needs the most work I think.

Note that the links really dont work right now (b/c theres no content for them to goto). Just trying to get the design layed out.

Thx in advance for any advice
VHockey

Wow! Does the main graphic have to be 955 pixels wide? Some like me may not like have to scroll to the right to see what's over there. Keep in mind, not everybody is running at 1900X1280.

800 X 600 is still the resolution standard at the moment.

Cheers!

K, I can easily just size down the main graphic. Right now its optimized for a maximized 1024x768 window (thats what I run at, and almost every new computer I've seen nowadays seems to have that as the default).

Creatures, by the red with the green I assume you mean the rolloers on the nav bar? I guess i could try changing that... I just figured Red was an easy color to see so it made the rollover stand out more.

I thought about trying to implement some flash but since i have virtually no skill with that I figured I wouldnt bother.

yeah i meant the navbar! darker green would just look better than this bright glowing green

BTW what about a yellow rollover? white?

VHockey86 just a note, i work for a school and even in the highschools we run the computers at 800 X 600 just because some of the programs they use need that resolution. Might want to talk to the Tech Cordinator. (unless you can say for certain that they would be able to use 1024 X 768 then just ignore me )

Besides. You don't publish web pages for yourself to view. It's the viewing audience you are publishing for. Reduce your own res so you can create compatible pages for others is how you do it. Higher res will auto scale your pages. 800 X 600 res setup's will have the irritating scroll bar at the bottom.

Cheers!

K, well I just scaled the top image so it will shink to 800x600 with no scroll bar. Only problem now I guess is that the middle area is much more limited in space for content.
Should I just move all the links to the left side then? Theres alot more links that need to be added too, whole other set of stuff for "advanced/honors" level physics, plus some other links like on the right.

Incase anyone wants to look, this is the original site that I'm redesigning

I'm viewing at 1024X768 with full screen on a 19" monitor and here is my bottom right corner.

As you can see, there's something wrong with your scaling.

Cheers!
