Printer Color Level not showing

I have an Epson Stylus Color 740 installed on WinXP and I can't find where to see how much ink is left. Before when I had Win98 I could check that, but it's not there anymore, does anyone have any ideas what to do besides reinstalling the driver?

These printers do not measure the ink level - it's the drivers that count the usage, and give a guesstimate about how much ink should, in theory, be left.

You probably are on Microsoft's default drivers, not on Epson's own.

Yeah that's correct.

I also noticed that the printer estimates crazy numbers and the usage level. When it's empty (or so it says) I take the same cartridge out and put it back in and voila! Somehow the whole thing is full!!!!! Amazing, and I'm good for another couple weeks.

Thanks for the help!

Some Epson cartridges have a chip on them that tracks ink usage (and prevent refilling). If you have one of these and your printer is attached to a parallel port I believe the port has to be configured for two way communication in order to see the ink level. Not sure if this has anything to do with your problem or not.

Some times you can move the cartridges to the change position and let it set for a few min. and when you move it back to the run position it will reset it's self.

This is just for the company to make extra money off you. Even if the cart. is not out of ink, it wil say you are out. They even install expiration dates in the chip so that you can't use it past a certain date. You can find bypassdrivers i have heard.

Well the way I have it set up now is I run it bone dry. I start seeing it in the image colour when there the cartridge is empty.

Anyway that's not my problem!!! LoL. I just want to see the ink level. And J-Excel I have no idea what you just said, if you could explain what I should do that would be great.

Thanks for all the replies!
