rpm -Uvh rpmname.rpm

(-U is for an upgrade, I believe -i is for install)

Don't forget that while typing the filename you can just hit tab and it will attempt to autocomplete the filename

helps immensely on some of those filesnames like
imici-2.0.4.4a-b9adf.rpm

I did that and it replied with:

warning: thisismyrpm.src.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e418e3aa
error: cannot write to %sourcedir /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES

And, RPMs are not the equivilent of .exes. RPMs are installers, more like an MSI package. Binaries would be, typically they have no extension and are located in /usr/bin, /usr/local/bin, /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin .

One of the things that will help you understand linux better is to try not to equate it to windows, particularly relating to things like the file system. It is very different beast when it comes to that.

The error you are getting is also because what you have there is a source rpm, not a binary rpm.

The source rpm is there to make compiling your own binary easy, wheras the binary version is already compiled. I'd recommend that you go wherever you got that file and find one that says something like ".i386.rpm" instead of ".src.rpm"

And I've been typing out the entire file name each time!

My gripe with RPM's: dependencies. And what's with RPMfind.net? My favorite Linux site is temporarily down because of the BS going on in Europe.
