uninstalling stuff? Yahoo Messenger? Start Menu

I have a couple programs installed on mandrake 9.1 (no-ip, teamspeak server) and i want to uninstall them.

i know to do it you have to like

rpm -qa and that shows the package....but is every program an rpm?

and once i know it i type

rpm -e ********

but how do i know if the program is an rpm, and lets say it insnt, how do i find it, uninstall it then?

I have yahoo messenger installed, but whenever i IM someone or they IM me, the font is so small it is unreadable...ive looked through settings and the such...but i cant figure it out...any ideas?

how do i put programs which i have installed into the start menu?

how can i learn more about linux as a whole, and how to function with it? i have been playing around with stuff but i just frustruated....any resources people can throw at me to help me?

1. Well, if you installed it as an RPM then you can uninstall it using rpm -e (or using RpmDrake in the Mandrake Control Center). Otherwise, look at the instructions you used to install it.

3. Use Mandrake Control Center (MenuDrake)

4. Keep using it, maybe try a different distro (Gentoo is great for learning the mechanics of it, or even Linux From Scratch to really get your hands dirty); maybe buy a book (make sure you get one written recently); build a router, a web server, a print server running Linux or a BSD; compile your own kernel; there's loads you can do - have fun!
