Opera 6.05 losing Pull-down Menus

Gents,

Opera 6.05 is a pretty clean and fast browser, but I have noticed some odd habits. Topic for today's discussion is the tendency for Opera ver. 6.05 to lose some or all of its pull-down menus. You click over the top navigation menu (e.g. File, Edit, View, Navigation, Bookmarks....) you do see that the mouseover is trying to work, but no pull-down menus.

Generally this occurs after surfing for a bit, sometimes after having more than one Opera window open.

I have tried to find this question and its answer on the Opera homepage and elsewhere on the Net. Either I am the lone surfer with disappearing menus or there is a whole passel of Opera users who are suffering in silence.

On a final note, upon log off, Windows98 generates an error 'illegal operation' message which must be clicked on to clear. That habit seems to have no other side effects but may indicate some underlying problem.

System Info:

Windows98, lots of room left on harddrive, 156MB RAM
Opera ver. 6.05 (non-Java version, but javascript capable and enabled). Regularly run Norton Antivirus and disk maintenance utilities.

Any advice, suggestions, wisdom appreciated.

KJ

I'm just curious, but why are you still using Opera 6? Opera 7 has been out for quite a while now, with a lot less bugs and a lot more features (not to mention it's faster too).

I'm using Opera 7 and recently I've been having a problem surfing...the browser randomly just exits me back to the desktop. no explanation on the main site.
it uses up 76,308k of my ram too. I hadn't had these problems with Opera 6.x
try enabling "javascript" .... other than that, I'm sorry, my expertise lies in building 'puters.

as a t-shirt on [url]thinkgeek.com[\url] so aptly puts it: "it's a software problem"

Yes, I had read of some complaints about Opera 7. As I have seen is some so-called 'upgrades' they are usually larger, have fewer user controls, likely have built-in spyware and have their own security and stability problems.

Opera is generally a good browser, I am hopeful that someone has encountered and successfully dealt with this issue. I am all ears.
