Networking Glitch

Last night I found that the 3 computers on my home network wouldn't connect completely. I have windows XP Professional on all and they are all connected through a router on to a cable modem.

The cable modem/router works well and all three PCs connect to the internet.

Problem occurs when I try and access hard drives on PCs. Can't even map the drives. The error says: "Not enough server storage is available to process this command" when I try and map drives from the explorer interface.

This has never happened before.

In short, the 3 PCs connect to internet but can't see each other's drives as they used to.

I did run the network wizard and the workgroup is called HOME -- I can see the drive letters under My Network places-Micosoft Windows Network-HOME-Drives, but not the folders--gives the error quoted above.

I hope this is not confusing.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Shahani

Send a message via ICQ to sm8000 Send a message via AIM to sm8000 Send a message via Yahoo to sm8000
Are they all using static IPs? And on the same subnet?

Did it ever work? Have you changed anything recently? What kind of router is it?

Last nite being the 1st of the month...is it possible you have a worm that has released its payload and is messing up things?

Maybe try two machines at a time to see if you can isolate the prob to a single machine.

Found the info below from this thread here:

http://www.devhood.com/messages/mess...hread_id=70478

-------------------------------------------------------------
Just had the same problem with an XP Pro upgrade; I couldn't get to the default admin shares (as admin) from another Win2k box (using net use / map network drive). I couldn't print to a shared printer from an ME-based laptop. If I tried to map a drive, the WIN 2k machine kept saying:

"Not enough server storage is available to process this command"

Note that I could connect out from the XP box, and see the shares from other machines, so this isn't a firewall / connectivity / network setup problem.

Solution:
After a productive session with MS, it turns out that Norton AntiVirus 2002 was the culprit.
Antivirus 2002 adds a registry value that prevents shared access.

Here's what worked for me...

-->CAUTION: YMMV: backup this registry key; create a restore point (XP pro)<-->

You need to edit the registry to fix this. The registry entry is:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\LanmanServer\Parameters]

You'll see a value called:

IRPstackSize

It will be set to some value between 4 - 12 (in decimal) usually. Edit the IRPstackSize key and delete the numeric VALUE (not the key).

Now all is well

Thanks, meese. Sounds like a plan. Will report on what happens. I do have nav corporate edition 8.0 installed recently so that may very well be the problem.
