Can't see anything on my screen

Hi new friends,
I'm new to this also.
I'm having a problem with my video output on my computer. I have an ASUS A7A266 mobo, 1.2 gig AMD Athlon. I was using a nVidia gForce 2 mx400 64mb video card when this no vid output started. So I thought my gForce 2 card gave up on me and went out and bought a gForce 4 mx440 128mb. After I installed it, I still got no video. Could the AGP bus have gone bad?

I would think you'd get a post error if the AGP bus was bad.

You're getting nothing at all, even during startup? Or does it just go blank when Windows starts? Have you tried starting in safe mode? Do you have another system you can pop the new card into to check?

Oops, where are my manners? Welcome to TechIMO!!

Better get this moved to where it will be answered better.

Welcome to TechIMO!

I'd try reseeating the vid card first. Pull it right out, and make sure it's in all the way.

Another thought: does the motherboard have on-board video? Might need to be disabled in the BIOS.

Let's see if i can find someone to move this for ya...

Cheers
Mick

Thx Osprey and Mick for your replies. The A7A266 is my first endevor into building a better computer. No, it does not have an on board video. It has been performing great for two years. It's been acting this way (no vid) for about a week now. I'm posting to you on my wifes Compaq (I knew it would be good for something! lol ). When I plug my computer into the Compaq screen... I still get nothing. It is just a black screen.

Ok, what happens when the computer starts? Are there any beeps at all? And a few actual specs would help. Can you give us the model and brand of your new video card? Might be a voltage or an AGP speed issue.

And, I'm a bit confused. Do you mean it was working correctly for a while? That might mean the vid card has gone south - sometimes happens if voltage settings are wrong.

Can you put the old vid card back in and see if you can get a pic?

I'm assuming you get no image at all when booting, not even a BIOS screen. If it only goes blank when windows boots, but you can see the BIOS screen, it's most likely a driver issue.

Cheers
Mick
