I visited the www.techsmart.com place up in NY once. Instead of a regular 20" box fan...one of the techs had a fan about that size but it was made up of 3" case fans! lol.

It was probably 7 fans tall and 7 fans wide, hehe.

what case do u have? i never herd of buying the side of a case. also the small shuttle systems u showed me only had like 180-200 watt power supplys, and ive always thought and read that for a new comp u would need AT LEAST a 300 watt. how does that work?

But the point of a 120mm fan is to push the same cfm as a 80mm fan witih lower dBa. Also the frequency of noise will be lower so may be more "comforting" at the same dBa than a higher-pitched sound. Obviously if you are pushing 90cfm with a 120mm fan it is going to be as or even more noisy than pushing 40cfm with a 80mm fan, but that's sorta missing the point of why people say 120mm are quieter.

I have very good results with the Vantec Stealth 120mm which pushes 53cfm at some 28dBa. They are definitely quieter than my 80mm Sunon 39cfm fans.

I'm really missing what you're trying to say here...? You are complaining that fans create any noise whatsoever? I realize that you are in part responding to someone who wanted to put 12 fans in a case (lol) but I was responding to your comment about 120mm fans... which for reasons I stated succinctly I feel really misses the point of using 120mm fans over smaller ones.

BTW, 28dBa on 3 fans isn't terrible... I am running 6 fans ~30 dBa right now in my case. I have dampeners around the case so the noise isn't bad at all. I responded to another post of yours where you asked for a dBa combination of multiple fans, and I pointed out that it's not possible to estimate in theory because the position of the fans inside the case will change the dBa...

The point of this post was to suggest a small enclosure with fans packed all around it. I'll tell you from experience that even ONE fan in a small and hollow enclosure will be louder than the fan sitting and running all by itself, or in a larger case.

Also, he didn't say he was going to use one of them - he suggest 6, then even 12. I'm saying that even 3 fans rated for 25dba would be unbearably loud.

.....uh.......ya........cool???? im speechless and very confused but at least now i no my idea wont work, but will a 180-200 watt powersupply be enough for a newer comp? cuz thats what those shuttle cases come with
