identifying where files are on a partition and moving them????

okay - defrag apparently doesn't move unfragmented files into a contiguous smaller space. I need to move these stray files at the end of my drive so i can repartition it and install Linux. Anyone know offhand how i can identify which files these are so i can either manually move them - or know of a utility that will handle this for me? I'm on XP Home. (I know, i know, big mistake. but i'm moving to a REAL operating system now! But i have to maintain windows on my system, too for work and interfacing with applications at work.)

Expedient help would be greatly appreaciated as i'd like to get moving on this!!!

TIA!
Scott

(Sheesh - even windows 98 defrag utility did this right!)

Couldnt you just use partition magic to make a new partition?

problem is, i have a 40 GB HD in my desknote. 6 GB are in use, after i did some houscleaning, and i have some straggling files near the physical end of the drive. The Mandrake installer i'm using has a repartitioning program, but it won't move the files, and forces me to leave my windows partition at 32 GB (comp size). I want a little more than 6GB for my Linux partitions.
