Sudden Restarts
Does anyone else's computer restart suddenly while you're just sitting there? About five minutes ago I was just sitting here surfing the web, and all of a sudden it restarts out of nowhere. I have XP Pro, and its an hunk of junk e machines. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Suspect the following:
1) Power Supply
2) RAM
3) Loose connections - hdd, video card, sound card,.....
4) Bad sectors on drive
5) Corruption of critical system files (virus...)
6) All of the above.
Please give some more details so we can analyze the situation.

I would suspect heat first.
Check to make sure your PSU fan is turning.
Take the side(s) off the case. If it doesn't reboot again, then you know it's heat.

search for a file called msblast.exe on your hard drive. there has been a nasty worm going round for a while which will cause this. run a firewall and antivirus program as a matter of routine.

Uh, no, that ain't "cool". You got some serious heat going on there.
Take the side(s) off and see if your temp doesn't drop. It should, like a rock.
Do you have a HSF or just HS on your CPU?
Put your hand on top of your case towards the rear. If it's real hot, then your PSU fan is probably shot. Don't try to replace it, replace the whole PSU.
