MSI board wont boot!

Hello all,

I have a MSI MB K7N2G-ILSR, pheonix bios, xp2100, 512 pc-2700
ram is in dimm 1 slot. 420watt ps.

This is what it does when I turn it on-all fans come on, it beeps once then shuts down. Did the clear cmos jumpers. put in another stick of memory. Should I have hard drive and floppy connected? Wouldnt think that would prevent me from getting into the bios. Thanks for any help. James

unplug everything except one stick of memory and a video card (use integrated if you have to)

IF that works slowly add items until you find the culprit.

Has this mobo ever been powered up for a full boot?
If it was just built then its possible something isnt' plugged in correctly.

I've a time this afternoon trying to get this computer working with an MSI MS-6330. I found out the floppy controller is shot ,so I had to go into the bios and boot from the CD rom to load the OS, then switch back to Hdd 0 to finish the install. Floppy still is wasted but got it running. Check around the bios and unplug and card devices till it will boot, then add them one by one. Good luck.
Any more questions, send me a PM

No such luck booting. Everything possible is disconnected. Using onboard video. Thanks again. James

IF you're comfortable with it, and you have teh manual try unplugging all the cables from the mobo and re-connecting.

DO NOT do this if you're not comfortable with it.

Do you have a spare power supply to test with?

Well I got into bios not sure what I did that made it work. I did remove the cpu put some more thermal compound and reseated it a couple of times before putting heatsink back on. I am going to reconnect everything. If I run into problems I will do another post. thanks for all of the spontanious help. James

Hey I have everything connected including all of the drives. Have the OS installed, but it is being picky about restarting. Not sure what that is about. When I wiggle the memory side to side that seems to work. Anyway if you have heard of this let me know if there is a cure. Thanks james

be careful how much thermal paste you put on there.
too much and it becomes a insulator instead of a conductor.. watch your temps

Send a message via AIM to Darthgary
MSI has a feature called D-Bracket 2, look at the USB Lights in the back of your case and find which lights are lit and which are not, look em up in the manual and it should tell you what the problom is.

Couple of similar problems I had with that board:

1) the connector from the power supply to the mobo has a snap hook on it. Make sure the power supply molex is Fully seated, Intermittent probs wiil drive you nuts if it is not.

2)You kinda need the fan installed on the heatsink, connected to the CPU fan jumpers on the mobo. it could shut down if the system doesn't detect a heat sink fan.

After doing that, got to setup on boot up. Go to the system health page, and watch the cpu tem for 5 10 minutes. should level off at 40 - 50 degrees centegrade idle if everything is ok
