I have a westel Wirespeed Adsl modem. And when trying to connect ot overnet/edonkey and game spy it says that there is a firewall or proxy. Gamespy is saying this beacuse my internal IP is different from my external. Some one help.

The modem is right in to my computer. All firewalls are off. On the modem and all others are turned off.

Urban_Squrill:

The IP address difference is because of NAT (Network Address Translation). It allows your computer(s) to use IP addresses reserved for internal use to be translated to a valid IP address on the Internet (some programs consider this a firewall.) I see four choices here:

1. Find a way of getting your game to work with NAT

2. Give your ISP the extra $$$ for a static IP address

3. Do not try to play the game over your DSL connection.

4. You may be able to get it working using a DSL Router with "DMZ Host" ability. Check with the game manufacturer. According to my Linksys BEFSR41 manual "DMZ-Host: Allows one local user to be exposed to the Internet for use of special-purpose services such as online gaming or videoconferencing."
