You cannot copy is as such. Ghost is imaging the partition and restoring to another partition.

Copying is possible (for the OS) but it will not boot up and work.

Thought you knew all this Creature. Or you forgot while on vacation?

With W98 (ME etc) it is possible because after moving it to the new system you just go into safe mode on the first boot and then delete the "hkey local machine/enum" folder and then reboot which deletes the old hardware entries and forces the OS to find all the new hardware.

Not so sure about NT type systems though, have heard stories both ways. Of course with XP you are running into the activation thing.

This kind of copying an entire OS is inelegant, clumsy and may lead to instability.

In my opinion, it should never be done except by peeps that don't know better. It is so much simpler to image the drive and store the image on a separate drive/partition or on a bunch of CDs and then restore.

Even in copying ME/XP, you gotta be careful to first delete the page/swap file because if you don't it will never complete the copying operation.

But, Creature, you have all disks so don't try and copy the OS like this.

You can use Ghost to image the drive and then use Recovery Console to get the boot files back to the boot drive.
