cannot connect to server

I am trying to create a network from my uncle computer to my laptop using a netgear switch and a cable modem.

I created the network but when i goe to connect on line it says cannot connect to server.

I am using a RCA digital broadband cable modem (model#dcm305)
i was told the it could be that i need drivers for my laptop but i am not sure. Can some one help me out with this.

alot of isp, to share out internet you will need to get a router.

a switch will not suffice

You will need to set one up w/ Internet Connection Sharing. You will also need to have two NIC's in your uncle's PC.

You can either get a second NIC and check out this OR, get a router like GZ3 said and just let it do all the work. I personally would go w/ the router part.

Each PC has to have it's own IP address, a switch will not supply either w/ an IP.
