IE problems

My Operating System: Windows 2000 professional - I think I am having trouble with Internet Explorer. Have Comcast Internet access. I can get on internet but certain pages do not load. Example: I can get onto Google and do a search fairly quickly. But once I click to go to a site it does not connect...it half loads (blue bar at bottom of page does not expand). I can get onto my comcast home page..and onto yahoo.com but not into the mail box. My Weatherbug program featuring live data loads as do the IMs for yahoo and AOL. I also have AOL on my system which will not open. I have a 2 yr old Dell Dimension 8100 P4 1.8Ghz with 256MB w/a 60GB HD. Running Windows 2000 professional MS office products. I have a lot of stuff on my Hard Drive..digital photos and am down to 3GB I think.

I've had the problem since 8/13 or so..did a series of MS updates from their web sites and some things haven't been right since. Removed firewall and POPUP COP software, reinstalled IE. Last week (on a whim that things fix themselves!!) I plugged in my network cable to the problem PC and everything worked!.. I powered down and went to work and when I got home and rebooted the problem was back.

Afternoon adomicile2!
Welcome to TechIMO

You can try to uninstall the updates from Add/Remove programs to see if that helps

To make sure its a problem with IE you can try an alternative browser (that is infinately better and safer) like Opera or maybe even Mozilla (from mozilla.org) and see if those ARE able to access the net.

Download Opera browser
http://www.opera.com/download/index....atform=Windows

(You may have to download the Java version which is larger, but once you've installed that version you won't have to install it again.. after that you can get the small version)

Download that, install it and try to connect to the net with it.. if you have the same problem then its not IE related.
