Outdoors NO SOUND NO SOUND !!!!

Okay can someone please help? I fitted a graphics card for a kid a few days ago .

Compaq presario 600 mhz Celeron processor with 16 GB and 256mb of Ram. Windows 98 Generic DVD player. I use to have this exact same model and ran it with this graphics card which was a pCI Geforce 2 MX Pro with tv out. Anyway I installed it and tried it out without switching on the sound. It appeared to be working fine so I installed the DVD software which also came with the card Power DVD also tried it with a DVD without testing the sound and it appeared to be running fine.

Kid gets home lives about 40 miles away and phones me to tell me that when he tries to watch the DVD's on his system they dont play sound. So I go through everything with him on the phone asking him has he everything plugged in correctly speakers etc, can he play audio cd's okay he says yes !!! etc etc

Anyone any suggestions. The systems audio seems fine with games and cd's but no sound when playing DVD's only picture.

did you accidentally knock off the audio cable that runs from the drive to the sound card/board, whatever? XP doesn't need it, but if memory serves me 98 does.

Silly question, has he turned up the sound in the DVD program?

If he gets sound from everything else, it must be the program. Oh is this sound on the TV out- or sound on the computer? If on the computer then check the DVD program. If only on the TV out check ur soundcard and cables.

Yes he turned the volume up on the dvd program okay and the sound is through the speakers on his computer. Do you think its the application program cause I have run this same player on the same computer using the same card no problem at all ?!!

Hey ,what the hell it can't hurt Reinstall sound drivers, and DVD program. But before u do that try to play a dvd with Windows Media player.

It could be the program, I am thinking about how I couldn't get any sound when playing Mp3's on MusicMatchBox. If I used any other program sound worked great, but not with MMB.

I had just upgraded my Videocard from a ATI 7200 to a Geoforce FX5200. The soundcard is Muse DVD 5.1. I also notice that I was not getting the Windows sound when I booted up.

I started not being able to get past the WinXp logo screen. Turns out it was my soundcard causing the problem.
