At Home What do you think...

...about this computer that my friend is very close to buy? Its a HP Pavillion A220, its price is 1489 $ (From Swedish to US Dollar) and these are the specs:
-AMD AthlonXP 2800+
-HD 80GB 7200 RPM
-ATI Radeon 9200 128MB
-512RAM DDR
-DVD-ROM+RW/+R DVD-16 with CD-ROM
-LCD Monitor 17"
-Microsoft Windows XP
-USB 2.0 Firewire

My friend asked me if this is a good deal in terms of the price and I told him that it is a great deal since it comes with a lot of goodies, (even with a LCD Monitor 17", which I thought very good) and I told him to wait to see what my people from TechIMO thinks first I think its a nice system. I also want to ask if someone has or have used HP Desktops and how they are. Thanks for the attention

dan

I'd say yes it is worth it, it roughly amounts to under £1,000, which is very cheap for a system that good, and it's got a warrenty too i assume...

It's a good deal, especially with the 17" monitor, just don't expect to play many games on it.

that looks like a nice system especially with the monitor. is the ram ddr333? i would assume...but just wondering.

as for HP, they are pretty much, what you have is what you got, sure you can throw in another video card and more ram, but for the most part its not really upgradable. but even so, with what that comes with, he wouldnt need to upgrade any time soon.

You could probably build one for less

True Wing, but here @Sweden its not as cheap as the US so this system is actually very cheap here, but compared to where you live its expensive since you can build a better one yourself. How are the HP in terms of upgrading them in the future? Are they the same as Compaq, qhich you need to be very lucky if you can upgrade it? Thanks for listening

from past experiences, theres not much upgrading as far as mobo and stuff, and the case is smaller than a standard mid tower, so dont expect to put a new mobo. you can swap the video card, and hard drives, possibly the cpu. Dont expect too much in the upgrade department.

*Updated*
My friend decided to look at the Dell computers and he got a surprise. For the same amount of money he can get a totally better machine but excluding the LCD Monitor and including a 17" CRT Monitor. This is what he is currently interested in:

Dell Dimension 8300
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ with HT Technology and 800MHz FSB
1024MB DDR RAM Dual Channel (2x512MB)
128MB ATI Radeon 9800
80GB IDE Hard Drive(7200RPM)
4x DVD+RW
Microsoft Works 7.0
Dell Monitor 17"

The whole system for 1567 $, I told him to go for it since it outperforms the other system he was interested in. What do you guys think? If you may notice I help my friends a lot, but I enjoy doing so Have someone here had experience with Dell destkops? If so good or bad? Thanks for listening

*Another attached file with picture of Desktop, just as a detail*

much better deal.. and i like the better video card choice also. look around for some 15% off online coupons and it'll be perfect.

compaq & hp are pretty much the same thing so id imagine their products are down to the same level. dell is still an outstanding vendor. (nothing beats custom-built though)

also i've had one experience with dell to share: bought from them once, no problems yet and upgraded nearly all crucial components without a hitch. installed 3 OSs over the pre-install and still no problems. now running XP Pro.
