Need Suggestions for Fan&Heat Sink

OK, I am planning to buy an Athlon XP 2100+ and try to OC it a good amount. I am looking for suggestions on what heatsink and fan that I can buy for under $30 that will best be able to handle the overclocking AND that wont sound like a 747
I was looking at the Volcano 11, but I am not to sure about the noise level on it, also I have heard some OK things about the VANTEC AeroFlow VA4-C7040.

Comments, suggestions, all appreciated!

i am very happy with my volcano 9, keeps temps real low, and also has speed adjuster (either with temp sensor or little nob)

Make sure you are NOT getting an XP2100+ Palomino... they have very little head room for overclocking.

Re HS... I like Thermalright's offerings. Shop around and you should be able to get an AX-7 for your dollar target. Thermalright SLK700, SLK800 and SLK900 are all outstanding heat sinks, but may be a tad out of your price range.

Def over $30. 800 is $40 somthing for bare HSf then you need the $10 fan too....Thats nearly 2x what he wants to spend. For the price best out there at your $30 mark is the Vantec Aeroflow. Per dollar nothing-I mean nothing touches it. Cools 2c less with 100watt cpu (thats more than the fastest XP out uses) than slk800 and cost nearly half as much. On your cpu there maybe a .5-1c temp dif but the cost will be x2!!!

Just my .02...

Ditto on the Palimino...If you want to OC, go with a !700 Tbred (b), or a 2500+ Barton.

Second, If you are gonna be moving it around, (lan, whatever),
Size Does matter, The extra weight can do some damage if you set the case down, and it pops out of the socket.

Case ventilation, amibent temp, can do as much as big honking HSF. It you don't believe it, set your ice cold Mountian Dew in front of the intake fans and watch the temps.

Very good point indeed. Another reason I went with aeroflow is its alot lighter than the slk series are due to copper slugged alum vs. pure heavy copper that requiers a fast fan.. Yet alot larger than stock the aeroflow still is within AMD weight spec for the socket which for the reasons you said is good. My deluxe wont house a 900 the 800 maybe. THe aeroflow just misses the caps around the ziff. Very close fit.

Aeroflow is probably the best fan you can get under $30. It's very quiet and has amazing cooling, and is also fits extremely securely onto the mobo (has the full three-prong clip and is VERY tight). As previous poster mentioned if you need to move your comp around a lot, you can keep the Aeroflow mounted. I move frequently between three locations across the US which means a lot of shipping my comp around, and I always leave the Aeroflow on - something you should NOT do with most hs, especially not heavy ones.

I am currently using an Aeroflow to cool my TbredB 2.4Ghz overclock and it is doing quite well with load temps around 50C. Now if only they would make one completely out of copper...

The only negative about it is it tends to vibrate quite a bit which made my aluminimum case very noisy; however I attached a rubber dampener intended for an 120mm case fan mount between the mobo and the mobo tray and that silenced the vibration.

I run a couple of these combo's, nice setup for the price.
You can click on the links at the bottom of the page / links to read reviews on both the fan and sink.
BTW, like the Vantec (which will only support a 70mm fan), the SK-7 will accept any 70 and 80mm fan.
I have a couple of the TMD fans, i'm very impressed with there design and cooling ability.
I'm surprised that I have not seen 80mm TMD fans yet.

Volcano 11

I have a volcano 11 HS and Fan and find it to be very good. It cools very well at low fan speeds. My normally clocked Barton 2500 runs at 38 deg C no load and 45 deg C full load. The room temp is about 20 deg C.

The fan does get VERY noisy when you turn it up to the maximum by my temps are ok at the minimum speed (1500 rpm) the fan can hardly be heard at this setting.

In the UK I got mine for £13 which is about $20

I hope you get it all sorted!

Peter

vantec aeroflow . it is great . it is quiet and you can use it to oc. i like them alot i have 3 also don't get the 2100 to oc . get a 1700 or a 1800 dlt3c amd xp . they are 1.5 volt so that will help alot when overclocking .
