Visual Basic Installation Information

I used to be a big fan of VB but then something happened to my comp and I reformatted and then I installed WordPerfect 9 and then VB, but when I went to uninstall and then wanted to open a WP 9 word document, it was looking for the VB DLL file? I would really like to get back into VB, I have a book, it's pretty old.. "Learn Visual Basic 4" but nonetheless I like programming and learning code-based material.

So my question is...
If I install VB on my system, will or could it mess up any of my DLL files? I have a very new system so I do care what happens to it and I'm in no mood to reformat as I have very important files on this computer and do not want the trouble (yet) of doing Data Transfers. I'm running WinXP Home, CPU: 2.8 GHz, 1.0 GB RAM. Would it be safe? Has anyone ever come across any problems that has somewhat of the same machine as me?

I'd suggest getting newer books first of all
VB4 books and experience won't get ya much of a job these days as most VB apps are in VB6 and slowly (very slowly ) moving into VB.NET

If you're on XP it shouldnt' cause a problem as XP will come by default with the standard VB Runtime DLL's as opposed to older OS's like Win98 where they were required to be installed to run VB apps.

hope it helps

Cool, I didn't know that Yeah I had the 6 ver. program but not the books, I had to sort of improvise on some stuff, LoL. Plus, I'm only 16 yrs old so the books I have now are fine, I don't even know if I'd get into as much as I have with HTML and AS for Flash. We'll see how far I get with VB4 first.

Thanks for the help and additional info!
