ECS P4S5MG/GL+ MODEM DETECTION PROBLEM

I have been laughing at my neibour because he could not set up his old dialup internet connection on his new PC. I went over to his house today to "rescue" him.

It turns out that windows can not detect his pci modem(el cheapo). It does not get detected when I change pci slots either.

I tried an external banksia wave 56k in com 1.. windows could not see that either.

Device manager shows a yellow exclamation mark against a pci/usb device in "other devices" section.

VIDEO DRIVERS OK
LAN DRIVERS OK
SOUND DRIVERS OK
USB SEEMS TO WORK WITH MOUSE & CAMERA..

SPECS..

WIN XP PRO
MB ECS P4S5MG/GL+
CELERON 2Ghz
???modem pci 56k new

Please help

Thanks,

Pete

Find the manufacturer of the el cheapo modem and get the driver files needed and install them.

Hardware detection doesn't always work. You sometimes have to do some leg work to get the device installed.

Cheers!

If that doesn't work, use the Standard Modem types in WinXP or Generic Haze drivers in other O/S's. (I think it is called Haze???) (Something close to it anyway)

Cheers!
