Windows XP SP2 Delayed...

...Until late 2004
I found this surfing the web, and I got surprised since I was waiting for it to be released late 2003. Microsoft supposely think it will take another year since it will contain a feature called Microsoft's PC Satisfaction package. This package will contain enhanced firewall and virus scanner and as Microsoft sais, "A better Windows experience out of the box". IMO this doesnt look like SP", this looks like Windows XP Second Edition, but we really dont know yet. I am still dissapointed since I thought it would be released sooner but I guess I am wrong. Its also pretty strange since Microsoft also told us that they are probably be going to release the next generation of Windows code-named Longhorn in late 2004 early 2005 but I guess they will probably change that due date too. Well, just for you guys to know. Here is the site where I found the information:Windows XP SP2 Delayed...

Yeah looks like Longhorn will be in 2006...according to the article's speculation:

However, an extended Windows XP lifecycle gives Redmond more time to maneuver and opens the door for Longhorn to debut in early 2006.
2+ more years...

I knew Microsoft was going to change the due date of Longhorn so it wasnt a surprise for me, since it couldnt be if they were going to delay SP2 for XP. If you think of it in the possitive way this is maybe going to make things better. Since I know Microsoft everything they try to make as fast as they can it comes out to be a disaster. A perfect example for this is Windows ME. I just hope that SP2 will make things better and that the nest generation of Windows will not be a screw up.

Maybe Microsoft could just take one OS, and keep improving on it and release a new version every once in a while, instead of creating a new operating system every 3-4 years or more. With this, They could charge less for their stuff, make more money, and their wouldn't be so much of a hassle for software/hardware makers to change their products to meet the expectations of a new OS that they have no control over.

Sounds great for the average non computer/e-mailer. Just hope that they do not force the hand holding and make the fire wall and scanner very configurable.

There's some stuff you just can't improve ... operating systems are going to need to be CODED for newer hardware to run well on it ... not just updated. Updating would also lead to gigabytes worth of downloads for updates.

True Telexen
If SP1 was huge IMO in size compared to the other Service Packs for the other versions such as the ones for 2K, then just imagine how SP2 will be in terms of size since its going to include all that extra stuff that Microsoft is telling us. I just hope that this one doesnt give the same problems and complications that SP1 did. As for Longhorn, new screenshots are available @winsupersite.com where the new interface is called "Aero" like the XP interface was called "Luna" I remember.

So much for MS only putting patches and fixes in service packs... If they're putting in an AV program AND a new (improved?) firewall they left that particular train of thought quickly.

Putting both a firewalll and AV in might be a bad move for them. They in essence would be taking more responability for system security. If they mess it up or do not update fast enough they would look very bad.

Making other companys to those would be best, they already have thier hands full with the patches.

That's what I was trying to get at but couldn't get it out properly ChubTub. They should focus on the OS and let 3rd party vendors worry about AV, firewall, e-mail and web browser programs. It makes it more difficult for newbies to computers but it would probably allow more of a push toward people requiring some minimal training on the basics of using a PC which includes downloading patches, using AV programs and how to update and firewall programs and how to check for patches.

Or maybe I'm just making the mistake of using common sense again... Hmm...
