Kids Power Supply Question

I recently installed a new ABIT IS7 mobo and P4 2.4c Ghz after swapping out my old P3 and mobo of 3 years. About 4 months ago, I had upgraded to ANETEC's True-Power power supply @ 350 watts.

My question: When I bought this power supply, I noticed that besides the standard ATX connector, there was an additional, smaller ATX12V connector. My P3 mobo, didn't have such a connector, so it was not a concern. On my new ABIT mobo, there is such a connector as well as the standard connector. The manuel isn't too clear about which to use. I used the standard connector and plugged it into the standard connector on the mobo. Works great. It's been on for over 24 hours now, with no problems. Should I concern myself with this additional connector? Should it be plugged in too? Anyone else with experience on this? I would appreciate any input.

Robert

If it's what I think it is the additional connector is needed for P4 motherboards and processors. Plug it in!!

That provides the processor with it's OWN line of power, rather than from the motherboard. It's a nice feature really, and being slowly adapted to motherboards designed for AMD CPUs.

Well gang, I got it done. This board is really laid out nice, and it was no problem making the connection. Everything seems in good order. My cooling seems to be working nicely. This P4 runs just a tad warmer than my old P3 did. Idle sits around 41C and gets up to 50-52 when in heavy use. I am going to invest in round cables for my drives, to increase better airflow. Probably around the same time I add another 2 sticks of Corsair.

That is a bit warmer than my 2.4B does even when o/c to 2.7. I am running 36C right now but I do get up to 50C under heavy load.
