Password protection

Is it possible to password protect a CD so that the contents and files are only accessible to someone who knows the password? I have to send some CD's with proprietary info on them across the country and from a security viewpoint want to make sure if the CD's fall into the wrong hands my work is not compromised.

Zipping is not an option as some of the files are too large. AVI, etc.

Thanks,

Bill

Are you sending these CD's via mail?
If yes you may want to consider spending a few more dollars and send it via Certified mail with signature required. This way only the person that the article is addressed to can sign for it and they will also have to show the postal service identification to make sure they got the right person.

As for password protecting CD's im not really sure on that one. Sorry

I had planned on doing the "certified" thingy. My additional concern was that only the person the disk was intended for (short of someone with encryption knowledge) could read the contents.

Assuming this CD needs Windows at both ends.... I've never met a file which I could not either store or compress with some level of compression. PkZip allows file storing without compression, if need be. Otherwise, I dunno.

In Linux, yeah, I believe this is very possible to encrypt with PGP or GPG encryptions.

maybe I'm out of my league but thought I would add my 2 cents. Why cant you just use like winrar, compress that data into one file or many files and then lock the zip/zips with a password?

Does this apply to folders? If so, problem solved.

A simple and secure option is PGP with the Conventional encryption.

A little more difficult but more secure, use PGP and the receiving party's Public Key to encrypt it.
