Xp connect problem

New build, it's a K7S5A Pro (w/ built in LAN). I installed the drivers for the lan, but still can't go broadband. I had a 56 k in there to start b/c that's what they wanted. I thought it might be the problem, so I removed it and uninstalled it from the Device MAnager. Still, when I try to get on the internet w/ it. It says it's not connected. I know all is good w/ the modem and cable b/c it's what I'm using now. Is there a setting or something I'm missing?

Thanks!
jme

Try going to the control panel and select Network Connections, then click on Create a new connection. Choose LAN as your connection type, it should be pretty straight foward.

Make sure you go into internet properties --> connections and say "never dial a connect." Also you prolly want to make sure in the same properties window goto Local Area Connections, and turn off automatically detect settings.

nope, no conflicts. I did turn off automatically detect settings vhockey, but it's the S.O.S.

When I click on ie it says :

Web page unavailable offline, blah, blah, blah. There's NO modem installed, no dial up info under settings, nothing.

That ip is a default given when you don't get one dynamically. And there are no DNS servers listed or default gateway. Are you sure your account is activated by your isp?
