If it was working fine before, & you didn’t add any new hardware or mess with the cable.
Then the most common problem may be dust. Try & blow it out with a can of compressed
air, or pick up a CD cleaning kit. But the lasers do die out, although 2 months is way to early.

Sometimes the setting for the CD device get changed by windoze.
Check to see if DMA is enabled or disabled in the device properties - change whichever it is, and see if it helps.
Cheers

Did it ever work?
Did it just (all of a sudden) stop?
What wattage is your power supply?
There are just a few things that affect CD-Rs and CDRWs, one is age..the lasers will not last forever (obviously not your problem if you bought it new).
Dust will cause a laser lens to get coated and it will not read some disks...same with smoking. Nicotine will get on the lens and keep it from reading a disk. Most times, such as this comes on little by little over time..not all of a sudden.
A weak or poor quality power supply will cause one to not burn a disk, but usually does not affect reading a disk. in burn mode, a CDRW will draw some serious current..and that is one reason we try to get as large of psu as we can afford these days.
If your burner is new...and is still under warrantee..will not read any disk, I would assume the laser has died a premature death. If you have access to another CD-rom reader..try that in your system..if it reads ok, then its probably time to call up the seller/store and get an RMA. You could try your burner in another system if one is available.

Could be the pickups are blown, then.
Best way to check it ain't a config prob is to boot with a boot floppy that loads a CD driver, and try to read the dir of a CD. If it works, then it's a windoze config issue. If it doesn't....
Or even just try to boot form a bootable CD-ROM.
Cheers
