Can monitor plugs be repaired?

I have a very nice 21" NEC monitor that is missing a pin on the end of the cable that plugs into the computer. This is causing colors to be funky and inaccurate on screen. Is there a way to fix these that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Or should I just ditch the monitor and get a new one? I would hate to do that.

Thanks

I'd see if there is a local tech repair store that can help you out.

I've seen the ends on sale at the local comp shows.
Only place that i've seen them for sale.
You might want to google it to see if you can find them online.

Hold on there.... did you actually break the pin? Many monitors cables are missing pins even when they are brand new! Tell us more - how long have you used this monitor? I own an NEC 21" XE21, it needs weird drivers.

If I can find an end, how many wires are we talking about inside that big fat cable that would have to be spliced and re-connected?

Repeat - you broke the pin?

The cables are 15 conductors plus a shield, which makes 16 conductors, but you won't need to splice, if you shop carefully: you may be able to get the proper replacement cable. They usually disconnect from the monitors circuit board by a connector, very much like the power connectors used for floppies on PSUs.

YES...pin IS broke.

So I would have to take the cover off the monitor and get inside? Isn't that risking some serious electrical shock?

I don't mind messing around inside of a PC, but the monitor?

So I am screwed!

I didn't think you can get a replacement cable like that but if you were to find a broken monitor like yours you can salvage the cable off of it.
