Formating CD-RW

I bought some highspeed CD-RW's and i tried to format one. after 10 seconds into the formating it gives an error that flashes onto the screen and exits so quick i cant read it. so when i try to format it again it tries to run some sort of scan because it says cannot identify media type. then it gives me an error that says cannot be scanned because media is either corrupt or severly dammaged.

Can some one help me out here. Oh and one more thing. My CD burner is not highspeed from what i can tell. could that be causing a problem?

thanks

Memorex once had a bad reputation for some media, so that is not out of the question. I never followed the issue as I only use Imation CDR media - I have used 2 Fuji CDRWs with no errors and Verbatim CDRWs are always bad for me, tried 3 Verbatims.

Have you upgraded W98 since installing Adaptec software? If yes, there is a good chance the ASPI software layers are now at mismatched revisions. I speak from experience on that matter. To repair ASPI problems, search through Adaptecs downloads for ASPI and ASPI Check utility for more information.

Lastly, I have used dpaehls freeware EASY BURNING software to blank the Fuji CDRWs (link). The Verbatims which I tried to format were attempted under an older version of EASY BURNING, I am not totally certain that version was bug free at that time.

"My cd burner may not be highspeed"

If the disks are rated higher than the drive, there may be no problem.

If the drive is rated higher than tghe disks, there could be a problem.
