how to tranfer from one disk to another?

I recently bought a refurbished Compaq, which is running great. What I dont like is the fact that the 60GB hard drive it came with is only a 5400RPM drive. I have a 120GB drive which is 7200RPM. Is there a way I can tranfer everything to that drive and use it as the primary drive?

Yes, you can install that second drive on the comp, get a program like Norton Ghost, and mirror the image from one to the other.

Also, the Compaq drive has 2 partitions, one is for the quick restore stuff. Can I mirror both partitions to the other drive?

OK now I have a real problem, I cloned the drives successfully, but when windows xp boots on the new drive I receive this error message:

"A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code 0x80090006."

I then ckick ok, but the same message keeps popping up and windows goes nowhere.

I think you need the shadow overlay that compaq and HP are famous for. Otherwise the only thing you could do in the old days was put in a secondary drive..Might check into this.

I had the same problem and applied the following fix which worked perfectly:

win98 boot disk startup then run:
fdisk /mbr then reboot when done.

I used ghost to image these new partitions on the new drive, but the sizes were different.

the fdisk /mbr fix took care of it.

Ghost DOES rule!
