WMP & Sony CD Burner

I have two questions.

#1 - Is there a way of converting windows media player files (video) to mpeg?

#2 - I have a Sony CD writer and just recently it is having a hard time reading CD's and when I initially use it, it will burn a CD but then when I go to burn a second it craps out and won't recognize the blank disc. Any insights? I've done updates to some things I looked up on why it might not be working, but all to no avail.

Thanks in advance.

-Mike

#1 try doom9.org and virtual dub or tmpgenc, or similar proggies.
#2 either it's time to get yourself a new liteon 52 speed writer dirt cheap, or try a cd cleaner disc. if you use a disc with cleaning solution then give it time to dry before you use another cd in it. on a hardware front, either check the flat ribbon cables inside the drive (to the moving laser assembly) or adjust the laser calibration pots. (NOOOOOOOOO) this a hard thing to do on a playstation laser and probably damn near impossible on a cd writer, so not a recommende course of action. if u r in one of the u.s. of a, then there is a post on these forums about a 52 speed writer for $9.99 which may be worth checking out.
