What is Wake On Lan (WOL)

What is this? I have it on all my motherboards but I never plug anything into it (it's like a 4 prong thing).

another one of those questions I always wanted to ask but didn't want to seems stupid

"the only stupid question is the one you don't ask"

I need to remember this

Hehe... I remember back when I worked in polytechnic.
I had a bunch of computers with nics, connecting the wol cable and plugging the power in caused the psu to explode I broke at least three psus before I figured it was that...

Now, when one of the computer we have at my current job got wol set on, it was unable to shutdown. You would shut it down, and it would spring to life within 5 seconds
WOL is something I don't want
