AIM Problem

I recently cancelled my subscription to AOL, b/c we now have a cable modem and no need for AOL services (Thank God!). Now it says, when I try to sign into AIM, that "Sign in blocked" b/c I would have to re-activate my account to use the screenname that I used in AOL. Is there any way around this? Please help!

you will have to create a whole new aim name since you cancelled the one you paid for.

You CANNOT use your AOL name on AIM if you have canceled services, you need to make a new name...
Yes it kind of sucks, my name is still locked and we haven't had AOL for years now, so I just added a 2 to it and went on with it.

I can certainly see why AOL would do that but I can't help but think "That Sucks!".

I guess that you could get your name back if you had AOL again, lol. That might be why the lock it, so if you go back you can get your original name back. Anyone who has tried it, let us know.

Actually, I think the AOL lock on that expires after X days...my girlfriend had AOL (dumb trial thing) on her laptop and when it ran out she started getting online at her friends house (DSL) ... I guess AOL told her it would expire later so she could use it on AIM...I'll ask her about it next time I talk to her.

Send a message via AIM to Mike
What I usually recommend to people I know are cancelling AOL, is to write down (or save) their buddy list.
