Firewire Failure ( nees Serious Help! )

I recently got a firewire drive from my school.

I dont even know the brand or anything of it, since I guess the school had a contract with them so I cant see who made the drive since the name of the company isnt printed on the drive.

What happens is that I plug in my drive and the computer locks up.

Completley, this firewire drive has 2 plugs, and I've tried plugging it on both and same thing happens.

I've tried re-starting the computer with the drive plugges in and unplugged.

I've tried switching Firewire ports and nothing.

Please help me guys, very important files are on the disk!

How did you get the files on the disk in the first place?

what os, are you plugging the firewire into the motherboard? the sound?
