Winxp network help

Ok my teacher at school cant get winxp to work. He has all the drivers installed and they are using novel client. The problem is he can get connected and be on the network but he cant use the internet. Now the weird part is he has a bunch of xp pc's from gateway next door and they work great. Does anyone know how to fix this problem on these xp machines.

this could be any numer of things. If he can access the networked PC's but not the internet, check your tcp/ip configuration. behind a firewall? check your proxy & gateway settings if DHCP isn't enabled. Check your DNS settings.

I've found sometimes that if IE has the LAN Settings set to "Automatically detect settings", this can keep you from surfing while still browsing the network.

From Internet Options;

Connections tab
LAN Settings

Make sure the "Automatically detect settings" box is unchecked.

ok thx ill try that. I dont know exactly what the prob is but just what it does.
