Systems Network printing problem....

My primary PC is a 2.4ghz machine with an attached (non USB) printer (HP Deskjet 890C). My second PC is a 233mhz machine and is directly networked by ethernet crossover cable (no hub).

I can print from my primary PC, but I can't from the 233mhz machine. I have successfully transferred files and settings so the network seems ok.

Any suggestions where to start. The ports on each PC are set to LPT1 if that helps. Also, when I try to print, the icon does appear in the task bar and a print queu is created.

Do I need print drivers installed on both PC's?

Any ideas?

What OS's are on each PC? When you installed the printer on the 233 machine did you choose "Add Network Printer" ?

I have XP Pro on both machines.

On the one I can't print from, I already have it checked off as a shared printer.

To share the printer over the network, is there something special I need to do to do that?

Thanx for your help.

You only have to share the printer on the machine the printer is connected to.

On the machine that you can't print from do this:

Go to Start>Settings>Printers. Delete the printer. Then run the Add new printer wizard and select "network printer", not "local printer". You should be able to browse to the other machine and pick that printer. The drivers should load automatically.

On the host computer it must be set as a share. On the host computer go into printers right click the printer and then click shareing and run thru the wizard. It will not let others print to it or use it unless it is shared. Once a little hand is under it then it is shared. By default install it is not shared even when you enable file and printer sharing.

No reinstall the printer on the client machine as a networked printer. Then print a test page and you should be up and printing.

I understand what you're saying, HOWEVER.......

When I go to the wizard to add a printer , and then search for a printer, the only thing it finds is "microsoft windows network". It doesn't find a printer, even though my host printer is set for sharing..

What do you think?
