Hyper Terminal. Please help.

I have win XP professional edition and i'm trying to use Hyper Terminal to receive phone calls on my laptop. I have a modem and i have a phone line connected to my laptop. In Hyper Termnal i'm selecting "Wait for a call", when someone calls, Hyper Terminal detects the calls but i hear a lot of noises like the ones that the modem does when connecting to the internet, and the caller can almost hear nothing from what i'm saying. How can this be problem be solved? Thanks.

Hyperterminal is terminal emulation software, not a voice program. Test the local modem, dial Modem to modem, or in some case it can also connect to other analog devices, a cisco Access Point for instance. Where did you hear you could use hyperterminal to receive voice communications?

Think in win 98 it was called a dial pad that was part of the OS. You would need something of the same.
