Audio CD Problem

Heya all,

Recentley i have discovered this little problem that i have with my CD drive. What happens is that when i go to use a cd ripping program the program finds no files on the cd drive and therefore i cant rip the songs that i want to into mp3. i went into my computer and went to the properties of the D:\ and it says 0 mb on the disk, like this:

then i go into the actual folder of the CD and it shows all the files but they all show as being 1 kb each. the wierd thing is that the computer still plays the songs off the disk not a problem through the player that i use.
Usually this would not bother me because i can still listen to CD's, its that i can't rip the songs into mp3's that is annoying me.

The brand of the CD Drive is LG 52x24x52
The number of it/serial number what ever it is, is:
HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8520B

And if its necessary my computer is:
AMD Athlon XP1800+
512mb DDR PC2700 RAM
64mb GeForce 4 MX440
80 gig Seagate HDD

Hopefully i have provided you guys with enough information

Thanks

PastranA

What program are you using to rip the songs?

Those files you see on a CD when you open it in Explorer (the .cda files) are just little data files telling Windows or your CD player about the sample rate, the bit rate, length, CD-Text (if any), etc. The actual raw PCM audio files are super-hidden. There's an old hacked cdfs.sys file around somewhere that will let you access them directly but it's terribly buggy and probably doesn't work on Win2K/XP.

This looks like it could possibly be an ASPI issue.

Hmm the Program that i am using is just called mp3 converter or something, but i know it works becuase i used to use it with my old CD drive. i have also tried other ripping programs and they have just done the same thing.

And what is a ASPI issue and how can i fix that or is there nothing that i can do?

Well it seems to be detecting the cd as wrong type.. the fs should be cdfs.

Try and install aspi drivers from adaptec.

Try some other ripping software, eg. easy cd extractor. Remember to reboot after installs and stuff.

No one else has any ideas why this would be happening?
