Router and FTP Server
I have a SMC Barricade Router and it was working fine before with my old computer.
I'm having a brand new computer that i builded lately and it seems that nobody outside my home network can connect to my FTP Server, it's timing out.
I activated DMZ and it was working but i don't want to have that activated all the time. The router configuration seems to be allright, ports 21 and 20 are there following the information i got from the manufacturer web site but no users outside from my home can access my server.
The partition where i have my shared folders is in NTFS. I don't believe that the partition is the problem so i'm looking for any advice that you may have about this problem.
Thanks

what ftp program? do you have the latest updates for the router?
do you have the muti ip address area set up (basically the area you set up so you can use the ftp behind the ftp)
also you shouldnt have to put the computer into the DMZ zone, that opens all ports leaving that computer unprotected.

GroundZero3,
I'm using bpftp server which is the same i always use without problems.
I disabled DMZ but sadly it was the only way to make the server accessible by my friends, without it only the second computer connected to my router in the house can access the server using the router IP address.
You're asking about the multi ip address area, all the configurations are for the ports (21 and 20) and for the firewall which is activated. I'm using XP Pro and this firewall is disabled so that shouldn't be a problem.
Mainly, when my friends are trying to access the server it's timing out so i verified all configurations following instructions on the smc web site and it's still not working properly.
I'm out of solutions for now.
Thanks for your time.

have the people who are trying to connect to your ftp turn off passive mode in the ftp client program.
also just to make sure, you have this part all set up correctly picture | |

GroundZero3,
Thanks for the reply but this is the first thing i tell them to uncheck.
I received some answers from bpftp server tech support and they seem to think that it is my router configuration that is wrong so here it is:
WAN: PPPoE
PPTP: Nothing
Static IP: None
DNS: None
DialUp ; Not using it
LAN IP: Router IP address
Lease Time: Forever
IP Address Pool: From 100 to 199
NAT:
Address Mapping: Nothing configured
Virtual Server: LAN IP address, Protocol, LAN Port, Public Port: Enable with information about ports 21 and TCP.
Special Applications: Trigger Port: 21, TCP, Public Port:21, TCP also and Enabled.
Firewall: Enable
No DMZ configured in the configuration
That’s about it for the configuration, everything is the same than before but this time it’s not working for my friends…..i’m in the dark with this one.
I tried port 21 for TCP, port 20 both for TCP and UDP and no luck.

Some ISP's that didn't block ports before the Blaster worm has started blocking ports. Could check with your ISP to see if they might have started blocking ports.

135 GZ, I checked my router log.
I use a linksys router and have had no problems with it.
In mine there is a section called port forwarding, you must make sure your new PC has a static IP address, and port 21 is forwarded to you internal IP address.

Wizzard, do you mean the IP from the router or the IP from the ISP ?
I'm lost because i never had to put any IP in my computer before so i don't know what's happening here....
