Best wayz 2...
How do all of you keep your computer safe, and private for you and your family?
I run, Norton System Works, Norton Firewall, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad aware, and HijackThis (If needed)
Anyone else have any tips, for keeping your computer up to date and safe?

Ok this might be a little over the deep end but this is our set up.
Swoothwall Corp. version, with rules and guardian running
Windows server running Active Directory
Windows XP Pro
Anti-virus (network version)
Spybot (on all machines)
ad-aware (on all machines)
No Kazaa or Kazaa like software.
Yes it's overkill but you asked. Terrible things happen when one gets bored or mad. |

| Yeah I have a tip; in fact I do it on a regular basis... I do my internet in an internet cafe and my gaming, mp3s and documents with my home computer That way I don't have to worry about viruses, spam, trojans, etc. from infesting my drive since most of these are usually sent through the net. (Let some poor internet business handle that
That doesn't mean my home system isn't unprotected. I do have Mozilla instead of Internet Explorer plus I have PC-Cillin 2002 (I hate Norton because it keeps telling me to get live updates even when I don't need it ) and Spybot. I used to have Zone Alarm but it took much space and it was so hard to unistall.
So there

All of my machines are behind a hardware firewall/router. All have ZoneAlarm, AVG antivirus, Adware, Spybot and I do a semi-regular check at TrendMicro's PC Housecall. No problems here. |

mostly the same things as everyone else
router, nortonAV, spybot, ad-aware,zone alarm, comon sense, intimidation, softly spoken words of disembodiment, aluminum bat, and last but not least, my lawyers.....Smith & Wesson
Oh the last 4 or 5 are what I do to keep my machines safe from my family and friends hehe hehe
I have one machine set up for everyone and almost anyone to use, my main machine, and the one down stairs, that my mothe uses
my machine has the added protection, bat, threats, lawyers

Exceptions: Zone Alarm Pro, Norton antivirus.
No one opens any email attachments by default.
Also, I set up site filtering on my 10 year old's PC.

I use everything else, that everyone does:
Norton AV, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, RegScrubXP, The Cleaner, PopUpCompanion and ZA4Pro w/web filtering. But a few weeks back I installed: Spyware Blaster
(This ain't a commercial, it's free.)
It supposedly prevents spyware from being installed. Since then, whenever I use Spybot, it comes up with nothing. Nothing at all!
