maximum temperature

I got a p4 @ 2.53ghz and the asus pc probe that came with my motherboard says it is at 39c/102f now what I gather it that this is an ok temperature and the pc probes my not be always be acurate but what temperature should I start to worry. the fan is the one that came with the processor and it is not overclocked.

That's a good temp for that proc. Don't trust the probes entirely though, their not always accurate as you stated.

Yeah that temperature is a guarenteed crash-fest. Get a nice loud HSF and your good, be sure to put a thin layer of AS3 on the core.

i double checked the settings on mbm and i think i got confused with the config. the 79c that i thought was my cpu was actually my board or heat inside the case. when i played with the settings mbm was able to detect my cpu sensor and it read 49c but after i rebooted the system mbm wont read it again. im planning to instal speedfan and see how it goes...

thanks guys...

Remember you can't run multiple programs for temperature detection at the same time ... it corrupts the temperatures.

Your case couldn't have been running at 79c...that is HOT and would likely put the CPU well over boiling temperature (water)

I have a new P4 2.4c Ghz in an ABIT IS7. Stock Intel fan and heatsink, no overclocking, and 2 case fans, plus a hard drive cooler. On idle, my cpu temps are 49C, and rarely rise above 53 when in full use. I've run Winbond and Sandra (independently) and they both give the same readings. I'm ordering round cables for my 2 hard drives, floppy, and my 2 CD players (DVD & burner). I assume my temps are okay. My old P3 800eb ran about 10 degrees lower. Any comments?
