A7N8X Deluxe POST problem

Sigh okay I have no idea what happened to my last post

Basically system specs are -

Asus a7n8x deluxe
AMD Athlon 2200xp+
512mb Crucial ram
WD 80gb HDD
Geforce3 gpu

That is what I have hooked up to a system right now. The asus board is brand new, just delivered today from newegg. I have all the parts that I listed above installed and hooked up right now. I started up the system for the first time(after installing the cpu heatsink and fan the wrong way! ) - All the fans, including the psu fan came alive, the hard drives were on, the led for the psu on the asus board was green letting me know that it was good...well the computer would not POST. There were no beep codes and I tried plugging in the speakers to hear the voice error reading but there was nothing. There was no image on the monitor too so I coulnd't check into the bios. I then unplugged the system, took out the battery, reset the jumpers and moved them back, plugged everything back in(even tried a battery from another board I had), and it was a no go.

I thought, after reading other posts, that I might want to try other memory sticks. I popped in my mushkin 512mb 3200ddr memory and it was the same story.

I've built systems before so I checked over most things I could think of, but I might still have missed something.

Is there anything that I can try to make this thing post!!?

I even tried the old 1800xp cpu that I had in the system before the mobo upgrade and it was a no go. The board I had in before this upgrade was the epox 8kha+ board. Everything worked on that system so I can't think of what happened.

If anyone can think of anything, please let me know. Oh I checked over all the things like making sure the ram was seated correctly...agp card was seated correctly and the red led was off so that was okay. All fans on, cpu fan going...

The monitor led stayed orange, which means standby for this particular one...Thanks

yeah it probably is bad. If it isn't going green anymore and it's staying orange it seems like it's not going to go any further. Does it act like it's booting up? Are there any beeps it attempts to boot up? If not you may try to rma the board.

Well I tried this...I went to the local store and picked up another a7n8x deluxe board and moved everything over to it. Same thing happens...it will not post and just gives no image on the monitor.

I am wondering if it might be the ram, but then again I tried two types already or two different sorts. Sigh...

I can hear the hdd starting up and the system starts up, but it doesnt give me any info via voice nor beep codes to tell me what's wrong with it. I am wondering if I might want to try and force the board into clearing the cmos by popping out the eeprom chip and putting in another then replacing the original. Anything else you guys can think of?

Just a thought but maybe a ram compatability issue? I know this board is known for it's fussiness of which types of ram you can use in it...... I have the same board/processor combination with Kingston value ram with no problems like that..........kinda hard to believe ya got 2 bad boards like that, so I would guess either it doesn't like those types of ram or possibly the video card has gone south..........just some suggestions, good luck.......

Yeah I suspect the video card, Crucial is a good brand while not the best. Try a couple sticks of Corsair XMS, their faster and I haven't heard of any problems with them on the A7N8X-DX.

Whew, it works for you with your valueram good, I got the same valueram and board for my dad im building tomorrow. Good stuff.

Hey partner, you might want to see if your processor is defective or not. I think a reason why your not hearing any voices is because the board doesn't know what to do. Make sure the processor isn't defective nor fried in any way. If you tried it in two boards, then it probably isn't the board.

Doens't the eeprom chip mostly control the voices status of the system and a few other things?

I had i similar problem with my PIII 800 on a ABIT BX 133 RAID Mobo.
The solution was pretty easy ;] MY TOWER WAS THE PROBLEM ! (lol ! :P) Just try to put everything out of your Tower, connect it and try to turn it on WITHOUT that any of your pc cards, ram etc, touches the tower!. Your Tower may cause a "tight" (@english Dictionary) wich dont allow your pc to boot.
I know that it may sound complicated, sorry but i have to refresh my english

Similar

I have nearly the same system. Same motherboard, same processor.

My problem is that I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro, and I get just past reformatting the drive, when the system hangs for unknown reasons. It comes up with a message telling me to check my drivers and such, but I don't have any since windows is not installed yet.

It's extremely frustrating. I've been told to manually set the multiplier and frequency for the Athlon 2200XP, but I have no idea what they would be. Can anyone help me out on that?

Any other suggestions as to what may be going on?

The multiplier for an XP 2200+ would be 13.5 and the FSB should be 133 Mhz. Just another thing I have noticed with that board, is that I would HIGHLY recommend a good quality power supply as mine does not like cheap power supplies at all. I used 2 cheap 400 watt power supplies with mine for short periods of time that gave me varying problems from random reboots, occasional crashes, and Windows install problems, until I finally got up the money and bought a 430 Watt Antec True Power power supply. Since then, it has run flawlessly for several months now. As I am sure a lot of peeps on here will tell ya, a lot of problems which can't be tracked down else where in the system will lead ya right where the source of it all is.............the power supply. Just a little food for thought for anyone with this board that might be having problems and running out of places to look...........

Shawn

Edit- Had the wrong multiplier at first! Sorry, it's fixed now.......
