Router Trouble...

Here's my problem...

My cable modem is working correctly and all lights are currently lit up ... and right now i'm directly connected to the internet, but I have many PC's at home that need to be online, and my router recently has been not working...

I have a LinkSys Etherfast Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router with 4-port Switch... and it was working earlier but all of a sudden the red light under "Diag" seems to be permanently red. I read the manuals of my router and it said to upgrade my firmware, and I downloaded the firmware and it won't upgrade...

I'm pretty stupid when it comes to this stuff, am I doing the right thing by trying to upgrade the firmware? Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks...

Have you tried a hard reset? There should be a small hole with a button inside on the back that you depress and hold for a few seconds. It will reset the router and then it should come back up. Be advised that this will reset the router back to factory presets.

Hmm... after reading both your posts I just again retried resetting it...Holding it for a few seconds and releasing doesn't appear to do anything...

I don't have a manual in front of me, but if I remember correctly you're supposed to hold the reset until the red diag light flashes, then release it.

Seems I would be here all day if that were the case!

I just tried that, the red diag never seems to flash?

There's a good chance your router is defective. You should probably contact Linksys.

Really? I've had my router well over a year and it's been workign great, they can all of a sudden 'go bad' after a while?

If it won't reset, there's definitely a problem. Maybe a power surge or just a bad resistor that finally blew. Who knows. Could be anything. Linksys support is pretty good once you get through to them. Give 'em a call.
