modem prob

Hi,
My friend has this prob where it could be 20 secs or could be an hour and all of a sudden he cant access websites anymore, but, to fix the prob so he can get back on the net, he has to restart his pc.

He is running win98, he has tried reinstall windows and drivers for modem, but to no avail..


Any idea's ???

I had a problem like that, it usually cam from playing really old computer games where i had to actually reinstall my ethernet card so that i could go onto the internet again.

This sounds stupid but try to make a note of the websites he was last on so that he can see if its something really basic like flash conflicting with the drivers.

Secondly try defragging your friends hard drive, it might be that whenever hes on the net the temporary internet files are filling up and when its full it wont let him browse.
Thirdly i would check to see if theres a bacteria or rabbit virus on your machine. These are annoying little things that multiply until they have taken up all your disk space or memory, then your comp freezes, you restart it and everything is ok again.
Make sure theres no my search toolbar or anything like that because they can be a REAL bother when your trying to browse.

Update your virus checker and remember to always press NO to any third party crap that comes up asking if you want this special program that will let you do nothing quicker.
