To many emails!!
At work we are getting hammered by this sobig email virus. Its killing me, this morning there was over 250 emails with this stupid virus and on a 56k it really bogs down the connection speed. I know we dont have it but how do I stop the flood of email in OE. Is there a way I can get OE to block these?

Is your email server Unix based? If so, you can add a procmailrc file to your inbox and dump all those emails to /dev/null.

I see. So you don't have direct command-line access to your email, eh? You can't use pine or other such programs?
Does your ISP offer any spam-blocking services?

In OE you can create a rule to check messages on your server by subject line and delete them from the server before they get downloaded. See here. The subject line is one of about five different subjects these virus emails have. You'll need a new rule for each one.
From CNN: Quote: |
The e-mail-borne worm arrives with various subject headers, such as: Your details, Thank you!, Re: Thank you!, Re: Details, Re: Re: My details, Re: Approved, Re: Your application, Re: Wicked screensaver or Re: That movie.

Does your ISP offer any spam-blocking services? | Well if it were upto me, we'd use Eudora for our email client, but its not so we use OE.
I dont know if Earthlink offers any service email blocking. I was wondering if theres a way in OE to block specific senders.

It'll only download the header. Then it will apply the rule. That's the way it's supposed to work, anyway.

Well, not only did I set up the rule for the subject line I also set up the rule to delete the messege w/ the words 'Please see attatched file for details' and it still doesnt delete them. Im fuming right now! I hate OE! I hate viruses/worms. I spent over 4 hours trying to get someones computer working last night and had to cancel plans. Now I wake up and goto work and find this! Someone take me out now!
